Pelosi's Fairness Doctrine Taking A Beating From The Press And Public
Nancy Pelosi House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may want to rethink her bid regarding reviving the Fairness Doctrine. Conservatives and Liberals are strongly opposed to it, as it would greatly censor free speech. There is serious bipartisan opposition to reviving this antiquated legislation. It would also force religious broadcasters to violate their religion in airing contrasting points of view.
Airing a contrasting view point should be elective not mandatory. Not only will it offend many, it shall run up massive staff/research and legal fees to undertake and defend in the event someone deems a broadcaster violated the Fairness Doctrine.
America was always about Free Speech. The Fairness Doctrine is censorship that would force people to say and air things they do not want to. That's about as un-American as it gets. If Congress wants a contrasting opinion, here it goes, both the left and the right hate it: ACLJ: MORE THAN 160,000 AMERICANS URGE U.S. HOUSE TO CONSIDER BROADCASTER FREEDOM ACT TO PREVENT RETURN OF FAIRNESS DOCTRINE Washington, DC (CR Newswire) The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), focusing on constitutional law, said today it has received more than 160,000 signatures on a petition urging the U.S. House of Representatives to consider the Broadcaster Freedom Act, a measure that would prohibit the return of the Fairness Doctrine. The ACLJ says it has received an additional 27,000 signatures in the last two weeks alone and the surge of support comes at a time when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters this week that she wants to see the Fairness Doctrine return and opposes efforts to free-up the Broadcaster Freedom Act so it will go to the House floor for a vote. Liberals assault First Amendment How refreshing to see Christians exercising their right to demonstrate. We are told in II Chronicles 7:14 that “if we call upon God, humble ourselves, pray, seek Him and turn from our wicked ways, He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land.” He can do it and would do it without politics, forming a committee or amending and amendment. He will — but he expects us to do our part. Petition Circulates Opposing Fairness Doctrine WASHINGTON -- June 26, 2008: Amid reports this week that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) won't allow Rep. Mike Pence's Broadcaster Freedom Act -- which would block the return of the long-dead Fairness Doctrine -- to come to the House floor this year, the Media Research Council is circulating an online petition in support of Pence's bill. Conservatives Criticize Pelosi's Support of 'Fairness Doctrine' June 26, 2008 - (CNSNews.com) - Conservative leaders on Wednesday sharply criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for endorsing a revival of the "Fairness Doctrine," which was described as "nothing short of an attack on free speech." House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the measure, which was enforced from 1949 to 1987, "outdated" and "a 1940s law that would take away radio and television licenses if broadcasters express their opinions." Time to Bury the Fairness Doctrine Once and For All The announcement from Speaker Nancy Pelosi that she wants to revive the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” is big news -- but it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Spokesman: Obama opposes the Fairness Doctrine FISA, NAFTA, the death penalty decision, now this. How many lefty hearts is Barry O planning to break to win an election? Nancy Pelosi and her Unfairness Doctrine Forget about worrying about getting your gas prices down. Forget about worrying about your health care. Forget about worrying about the war in Iraq. Forget about raising the minimum wage. Forget about all of the promises that the Democrats made in 2006 when they took back Washington. The real issue is free speech and censoring the voices in America. Pelosi to First Amendment: Drop Dead [Kevin D. Williamson] John Gizzi put the "Fairness Doctrine" question to Madame Speaker: The speaker of the House made it clear to me and more than forty of my colleagues yesterday that a bill by Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) to outlaw the “Fairness Doctrine” (which a liberal administration could use to silence Rush Limbaugh, other radio talk show hosts and much of the new alternative media) would not see the light of day in Congress during ’08. It's not for nothing that the push to revive the woefully misnamed "Fairness Doctrine" is known as the "Hush Rush" movement. From Bill Clinton trying to blame Rush for the Oklahoma City bombing to current calls to stifle controversial voices in broadcast, Democrats have made it clear that they fear Rush Limbaugh more than cancer. they keep calling for boycotts, he keeps buying new airplanes — but this is no joke: The Left is serious about censorship, and they're going to have to be fought. http://media.nationalreview.com The enemies of free speech are on the march (Part 11) The Pelosi politburo and the "hush Rush" muzzling doctrine June 30, 2008 - It is now a matter of record. The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America is against your right to free speech as guaranteed in the First Amendment to the Constitution of that same United States of America. She wants to shut you up in the public square if you disagree with her. That's how she interprets her privilege in attaining high office. The World's First Church
Archaeologists have discovered the ancient ruins of what they believe is the world's first church: Jordan archaeologists unearth 'world's first church' Jun 10 09:27 AM US/Eastern - Archaeologists in Jordan have unearthed what they claim is the world's first church, dating back almost 2,000 years, The Jordan Times reported on Tuesday. "We have uncovered what we believe to be the first church in the world, dating from 33 AD to 70 AD," the head of Jordan's Rihab Centre for Archaeological Studies, Abdul Qader al-Husan, said. He said it was uncovered under Saint Georgeous Church, which itself dates back to 230 AD, in Rihab in northern Jordan near the Syrian border. "We have evidence to believe this church sheltered the early Christians -- the 70 disciples of Jesus Christ," Husan said. These Christians, who are described in a mosaic as "the 70 beloved by God and Divine," are said to have fled persecution in Jerusalem and founded churches in northern Jordan, Husan added...
